Midori's Kyoto Kitchen

Midori's Kyoto Kitchen is a cooking school in Kyoto run by Midori Nukumizu, a researcher of Asian cuisine for all humanity. Midori has been studying Asian cuisine for 40 years, and lived in Singapore from 2009 to 2014, during which she was in charge of the Malaysian cooking class for the Japanese Society of Singapore, and was in charge of preparing Halal Japanese in-flight meals for the first flight of Malaysian airline AirAsiaX from Kuala Lumpur to Kansai International Airport.
We started inbound Japanese cooking classes in 2016, and have gained a good reputation for being able to meet the needs of any customer, with knowledge of food cultures around the world, including Halal, and allergies. During COVID-19, we closed the studio, but on March 1, 2024, we reopened our cooking studio in a traditional Kyoto townhouse in a convenient location in Shimogyo Ward, Kyoto City.


The classroom is conveniently located just a 5-minute walk from Tanbaguchi Station, which is two stops (5 minutes) on the Sagano Line local train from JR Kyoto Station.

・1 person: 18,000 yen

・2-6 people: 13,000 yen/person

・6 years old and under: Free

・6 to 13 years old: half price (13 years old and over: adult price)

・From JR Kyoto Station, take the Sagano Line local train to Tanbaguchi Station, the second stop, and walk for 5 minutes.

  • All seasonings and ingredients used in this class are Halal-compliant, and no alcohol or pork is used. 

  • However, the cookware and dishes used in this class are the same as those used in other regular classes.

  • Handwashing before prayer can be done in the washroom, and the veranda can be used as the prayer space.
